FBR integration, one clear step at a time.

Understand what you need, who can connect and how digital invoices reach FBR. Start with registration; go live only after testing.

YOUR SETUP ROADMAP

From registration to your first live invoice.

  1. 01

    Check your tax registration

An NTN identifies your taxpayer account. It does not by itself mean Sales Tax registration. Check your STRN and business status with your tax adviser before applying.

  2. 02

    Open Digital Invoicing in IRIS

Sign in to the IRIS account of the business issuing invoices. Open Digital Invoicing. If you see “not eligible”, first check registration and ask FBR to clarify; do not submit a tax registration just to remove the error.

  3. 03

    Choose a licensed integrator

Use FBR’s official list and complete onboarding with your selected integrator. FBR lists PRAL as providing integration services free on request to registered persons; confirm the scope and any separate software or support costs.

  4. 04

Prepare your products and buyer details

Prepare your registered business name, NTN/STRN, address and province. For each applicable product, confirm HS code, unit of measure, sale type and tax rate. Buyer information depends on the transaction; do not guess rates or require every customer’s CNIC by default.

  5. 05

    Connect and test in sandbox

In Seller Center, open FBR Integration. Select Sandbox, enter your own business details and securely save the test token. Test the connection and all applicable invoice scenarios with your integrator. Sandbox results are not live tax invoices. Never send tokens in chat or screenshots.

  6. 06

    Activate production after approval

Once FBR/integrator requirements are complete, use the production credentials and validate a real invoice flow. Check acceptance, the returned FBR invoice reference and required receipt details. Do not mark a failed or queued submission as FBR-verified.

Before you switch production on

  • Correct seller business and tax registration
  • Required tests passed with your integrator
  • Invoice timing, tax fields and receipt output checked
  • Credentials saved securely; production approval confirmed

Questions sellers ask

I only have an NTN. Can I connect now?

An NTN alone is not DI eligibility. Confirm whether your business needs Sales Tax registration and which authority applies. Production stays off until eligibility and onboarding are complete.

When is an invoice sent?

FBR’s FAQ links invoicing to the time of supply: payment received or goods delivered, whichever is earlier. A cart or order request is not automatically the same event. Have your integrator validate advance payments, COD and POS timing before activation. The marketplace’s existing paid/accepted queue must be checked against that timing.

Whose tax number is used on a marketplace?

The invoice must match the actual invoicing business and approved tax setup. Sellers connect their own eligible accounts; do not route every seller’s sales through the marketplace NTN. A multi-seller order may need separate seller invoices. Marketplace commission is a separate transaction; confirm its tax treatment with your adviser.

What if FBR rejects an invoice or the customer returns goods?

Keep the error and reference, correct the cause and reconcile before retrying to avoid duplicates. For an already issued tax invoice, use the applicable debit/credit note process with your integrator; do not silently delete the invoice.
